Summary:
Understand what hembar alignment means for PowerView® Gen 3 and learn how to keep shades moving in sync across the home.
Applies To:
PowerView® Gen 3 (after Spring 2022)
What Is Hembar Alignment?
Hembar alignment is a feature in PowerView® Gen 3 that helps multiple shades start moving at the same time and maintain alignment as they travel. This is especially useful if you have a bank of shades next to one another.
Identical shades (same type, size, and setup) can remain aligned as they move.
Different shades (different tube sizes, fabrics, or brackets) may move at different speeds.
Battery condition matters: low or dying batteries can cause shades to slow down compared to shades with fully charged batteries.
How Many Shades Stay in Sync?
Using the Gen 3 Remote: Up to 12 shades can start and move together.
Using the PowerView® App (without a gateway): Up to 4 shades can maintain hembar alignment at one time. If more than four shades are included in a Scene, the app will align four shades at random, then move on to the next group of four until the Scene is complete.
Using the PowerView® App (with a gateway): All shades in the Scene will activate at the same time and maintain hembar alignment.
When to Add a Gateway
For larger installations (more than four shades), adding a PowerView® Gateway ensures that all shades can move in sync across the home.
Things That Affect Shade Speed
Even with hembar alignment, shades may not always move at the exact same speed. Factors include:
Power source and battery levels
Tube size and fabric weight
Installation method and brackets
These variations are normal, but a gateway helps minimize noticeable differences.
