Matter Overview
PowerView® Automation is now compatible with Matter, an open smart home protocol that was designed to connect devices across different brands and platforms, making it easier to install and control your devices. The Matter integration is built into the PowerView App, and is an optional integration path for Google Assistant. Keep reading for instructions on integrating your PowerView system with Google Assistant and Google Home using Matter.
NOTE: The PowerView App also has a native integration for Google Assistant, which is more feature rich and automatically imports existing Scenes. Review the table below to help decide which is best for you:
Choosing Between Integration Paths
PowerView can be integrated with Google Assistant via two methods. Use the table below to compare:

Rename Multi-Service Shade Tiles (If Applicable)
- If your shades have multiple services (such as Top-Down Bottom-Up, Duolite, Independent Operable Liner, or Aura), you may see multiple tiles with the same name. Follow these naming guidelines:
- Maximum name length is 24 characters; names longer than this will be truncated
- Each name must be unique and not reused for any other shade or device
- Shade tiles import using the PowerView Room and Shade name; you may shorten this after assigning rooms
- To rename a tile:
- Press and hold the tile → tap the gear icon → tap Name
- Enter the new name → tap Next → tap the back arrow to save
- For more naming strategies, refer to the “Tips and Tricks for Products with Multiple Services” section.

-
Re-create Scenes in Google Home
- PowerView Scenes are not imported when using Matter. To use Scenes in voice commands or automations, re-create them in the Google Home app as custom Routines.

-
Rename Multi-Service Shades (If Applicable)
- If your shades include multiple services—such as Top-Down Bottom-Up, Duolite, Independent Operable Liner, or Aura—they will appear in Google Home as multiple tiles with the same name. Renaming these tiles improves clarity and voice control accuracy.
-
Naming Guidelines
- Names are limited to 24 characters
- Each tile name must be unique
- Imported names include the PowerView Room + Shade Name. You may want to shorten this during room assignment
-
To rename a tile:
- Press and hold the tile → Tap the gear icon → Tap Name
- Enter the new name → Tap Next, then tap the back arrow to save
- NOTE: For detailed recommendations on renaming by shade type, see the Tips and Tricks for Products with Multiple Services section.
-
Recreate Scenes in Google Home
- PowerView Scenes are not imported using the Matter integration. To use scenes with voice or automation, recreate them as Routines in the Automations tab of the Google Home app.
Congratulations! Your PowerView shades are now connected to the Google Home app and will appear on all devices linked to your Google account.
Using Voice Commands to Operate Shades
You can control your PowerView® window treatments using any Google Assistant-enabled device. Voice control supports individual shades, entire rooms, and scenes (if created as Routines in the Google Home app).
To issue a command:
- Say “Hey Google” or “OK Google”
- Follow with the shade name, room name, or scene name
Example voice commands:
- “OK Google, tilt Sun Room to 25 percent”
- “OK Google, open Bedroom Left”
- “Hey Google, close the shades”
NOTE: For best results, ensure each shade and scene has a unique and clearly recognizable name, especially if using multi-service shades or custom room names.
Window treatments with multiple services—such as Top-Down Bottom-Up, Duolite, A Deux, Independent Operable Liner, and Aura Illuminated Shades—will each appear in the Google Home app as three shade tiles with the same name. For Aura shades, a fourth tile will appear for light control. To ensure the best experience with voice operation, we recommend renaming these tiles to reflect their specific function.
Renaming Multi-Service Shades in Google Home
To rename a shade tile:
- Press and hold the tile to open shade control
- Tap the gear icon to view shade details
- Select Name, then enter the new tile name
We recommend the following naming conventions:
Tile 1: Manifest Shade (No Control)
- This tile has no functional control
- Keep the original name for the Manifest Shade with no controls.
- Optional: Move to a different room to reduce confusion
- IMPORTANT: This tile must remain in the app; it cannot be deleted. It may be necessary to activate the shade tile and watch the shade to determine whether the tile you are tapping controls the primary or secondary function.
Tile 2: Primary Shade Control
Examples of the primary shade control would be the bottom rail for Top-Down Bottom-Up and Stacking Duolite Shades, or the front shade for rolling Duolite, A Deux, or Independent Operable Liner. The primary shade control will allso include tilt control if available. Use these guidelines to name the tile based on the product type:
| Product Type | Recommended Name |
|---|---|
| Top-Down Bottom-Up or Stacking Duolite | Add "Bottom" to the end of the shade name (controls bottom rail) |
| Rolling Duolite, A Deux, or Independent Operable Liner | Add "Front" to the end of the shade name (controls front shade; tilt supported if applicable) |
Tile 3: Secondary Shade Control
Examples of the secondary shade control would be the top-down service for Top-Down Bottom-Up or stacking Duolite shades, or the room darkening liner for rolling Duolite, A Deux or Independent Operable Liner. Use these guidelines for naming the secondary function:
| Product Type | Recommended Name |
|---|---|
| Top-Down Bottom-Up or Stacking Duolite | Add "Top" to the end of the shade name (controls top-down rail) |
| Rolling Duolite, A Deux, or Independent Operable Liner | Add "Back" or "Blackout" to the shade name (controls liner or rear shade) |
Character Limit and Naming Conflicts
- Shade names are limited to 24 characters
- Longer names are automatically truncated, which can cause voice control issues
- Each tile name must be unique within the Google Home environment
- Example Conflict: If a tile in a room called “Main Bedroom” is automatically shortened to “Main Bedroom Shade Botto,” the missing “m” may prevent voice recognition. In this case, consider simplifying room or shade names to avoid truncation.
Limit and Naming ConflictsVoice Command Reliability
If tiles are not renamed, voice commands may fail or produce inconsistent results. For best performance, always use the renamed tile names when issuing voice commands.
