Summary:
This article explains how motor type, shade size, design options, and installation surroundings may affect motor noise in Designer Roller and Screen Shades with PowerView® Gen 3 or PowerView+™.
Applies To:
Designer Roller Shades, Designer Screen Shades, PowerView+™ Gen 3, PowerView® Gen3 (after Spring 2022)
Motor Types
Two motor sizes are used in Designer Roller and Screen Shades with PowerView® Gen 3 and PowerView+™: the 31 mm motor and the 23 mm motor. The 31 mm motor is approximately twice as loud as the 23 mm motor. When both motor types are installed in the same home, differences in noise levels may be more noticeable.
Motor selection depends on shade size and tube size. Larger shades typically require the 31 mm motor. In some cases, ordering a larger tube size for a smaller shade may also result in a 31 mm motor being used.
Shade and Design Options
Motor noise can vary due to factors such as:
Shade size: Larger shades often require larger tube sizes and louder motors.
Design options: Valances, cassettes, and hardware choices can amplify or dampen sound.
Mount type: Inside mounts may cause noise to reverberate differently compared to outside mounts.
Home Environment Factors
Noise perception may also be influenced by room conditions and installation surroundings. Hard surfaces such as tile, stone, or glass may reflect sound more noticeably than softer surfaces such as carpet or fabric treatments.
