When Firmware Updates Happen
Firmware updates on your PowerView® Gen 3 Gateway or Gateway Pro happen automatically:
The update runs in the background
The Gateway remains fully functional except for a brief reboot at the end
Gateway setup can be completed during the update
Note: When first powered on and connected to the internet, the Gateway will automatically check for an update.
LED Light Behavior During Updates
Blinking amber = checking for and/or downloading firmware
Solid blue = Gateway is online and up to date
Blinking green (for Gateway Pro) = ready to be added to the PowerView Home
Magenta = waiting for setup or Wi-Fi connection
The update process usually takes about 20 minutes, depending on connection speed.
Manually Check for Firmware Updates
You can manually check for an update if the Gateway is already added to a PowerView Home:
Press the P button on the back of the Gateway or Gateway Pro for 1 second, then release
The LED will blink amber while checking
If no update is found, the LED will return to solid blue
If an update is found, the LED will continue to blink amber throughout the process
After updating, the Gateway will reboot and return to solid blue
Update Gateway Pro Firmware
If the Gateway Pro hasn’t been set up yet, but you want to update its firmware in advance:
Plug in both power and Ethernet
-
Wait for the LED to begin blinking amber
This means the update is starting
Alternatively, press the P button to manually check
If no update is available, LED returns to blinking green
-
If update is available:
LED blinks amber for ~20 minutes
Gateway reboots
LED returns to blinking green when complete
Tip: Once blinking green appears, the Gateway is ready to be added to a Home in the app.
Update Standard Gateway Firmware Using Adapters
The standard Gateway does not have an Ethernet port, but you can still perform a pre-install update using USB adapters.
You’ll need:
-
A USB to Ethernet adapter
-
A Micro USB to USB adapter/power cable
An Ethernet cable
The standard power cable and supply that came with the Gateway
To update firmware:
Connect the USB to Ethernet adapter to the home router using an Ethernet cable
Connect the USB end of that adapter to the micro USB to USB adapter
Plug the micro USB end into the Gateway
Connect the female USB end to the Gateway’s power cable
Plug in the power supply
-
The LED will start blinking amber if an update is available
If not, it will blink green
After the update completes, the LED will return to blinking green
Note: This process also takes about 20 minutes.
Firmware Version Requirements for Third-Party Compatibility
Note:
To ensure compatibility with third-party systems like Control4, Crestron, or RTI, your Gateway firmware must be updated to version v398 or later.
You can check the firmware version in the PowerView App under Gateway settings.
