Identify Your Shade Version
Check the manufacturing date on the product label, located inside the headrail. This determines which repair options apply:
- Shades made before May 2015 support additional in-home repairs, including handle, magnet, and carrier replacement.
- Shades made May 2015 or later use a newer design with limited in-home repairs.
Tip: If you're unsure about the date, contact your dealer or installer for confirmation.
Reattach or Replace a Fabric Carrier
Applies to all versions
If a fabric panel is sagging or misaligned, a carrier may have slipped off its pin. In some cases, the carrier may be broken and need replacement.
For Shades Manufactured May 2015 or Later
Only reattachment is supported. If the fabric carrier is intact:
- Place the fabric between the arms of the detached carrier.
- Insert the pin through the hole in the fabric cells.
- Press until the carrier snaps securely under the pin edge.
Note: These newer systems use pre-mounted carrier wheels that slide into built-in tracks inside the headrail. Because the carriers are loaded during factory assembly, replacing them requires partial disassembly of the shade, including removal of the rails and fabric stack—steps that are not designed for in-home repair.
For Shades Manufactured Before May 2015

To replace the carrier:

- Insert the pin upward through both holes.
- Press down behind the pin until the plastic snaps under its edge.
- Press down in front of the pin until the plastic snaps fully into place.
- Ensure the carrier is securely seated beneath the pin edge.
If reinstalling rollers:
- Use a matching roller and rail carrier clip.
- Clear-stem rollers go in the rear track; black-stem rollers go in the front track.
- Snap each roller onto the pin.
Align the Moving Rail
Applies to all versions
If the bottom of the moving rail appears tilted or uneven, you can adjust it using the screws on the moving rail bracket.
- Locate the two bracket screws inside the top of the moving rail.
- For legacy shades (pre-2015), gently pull back the top of the fabric to access the adjustment lever.
- For current shades, access the screws directly from the front bracket opening.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to make ½-turn adjustments:
- To move the rail right: Loosen the left screw and tighten the right screw.
- To move the rail left: Loosen the right screw and tighten the left screw.
- After each small adjustment, test the alignment by sliding the shade open and closed.
- Once aligned, tighten both screws completely.
Tip: Having a second person hold the rail level during adjustment can improve accuracy.
Replace Handles
If the handle on your Vertiglide™ shade is loose, missing, or damaged, it can affect how easily you operate the moving rail. Replacing the handle restores a comfortable, stable grip for opening and closing the shade.
Legacy Vertiglide™ handles can be replaced at home:
- Align the replacement handle with the screw holes on the moving rail.
- Make sure the curved side of the handle faces outward, away from the fabric.
- Use the provided screws to secure the handle.
Need to order a handle? Replacement handles for legacy Vertiglide™ shades can be ordered at parts.hunterdouglas.com by searching for “VG handle”. Handles for current Vertiglide™ systems are not available online and require dealer assistance.
Repair Service Eligibility
Vertiglide™ shades manufactured before May 2015 support several in-home repairs, including replacing fabric carriers and the handle. These repairs are fully supported when the appropriate parts are available and can typically be completed using basic tools, as outlined in this article.
Shades manufactured May 2015 or later use a different system design and support only limited in-home service. Consumers may reattach fabric carriers if they are still intact and adjust the moving rail for alignment. All other repairs, such as replacing broken components, reseating the fabric stack, or addressing persistent tracking issues, require evaluation by a Hunter Douglas dealer. A dealer can determine whether the shade can be sent in for professional repair or if a full replacement would be the better option.
