Use Motor Configuration When:
- You are physically replacing a failed or damaged motor.
- You are adding a motor to a Home that has not been programmed with factory settings.
- You are reprogramming a motor that is not operating or behaving correctly.
Important Notes Before You Begin
These instructions apply to users with PowerView App version 3.14.0 and later. If you have an older version of the app, refer to this video that showcases the previous instructions: Use the PowerView Gen 3 App to Replace and Repair the Motor.
To confirm whether your specific product is eligible for motor configuration or motor replacement, consult:
Check PowerView® Gen 3 Motor Replacement Eligibility (Current Versions)
Check PowerView® Gen 3 Motor Replacement Eligibility (Previous Versions)
For instructions on how to replace the physical motor, refer to the article Replace the Motor on PowerView® Gen 3 Shades. After replacing the motor, configure the new motor using the steps in this article.
- If the motor powers up and is functional, you can configure the existing motor in the PowerView App. If you want to configure a motor on a shade already available in the Home, delete the shade from the PowerView App first.
Important: Before starting, ensure that the shade is properly installed in the window and all obstructions are removed to prevent damage. Once the motor configuration begins, the shade will calibrate automatically and move through its full range of motion.
Motor Configuration Instructions
- With the PowerView App open, press and hold the control button on the new shade’s headrail for about 5 seconds until an amber LED turns on.
- Select Configure Shade.
- You will then be prompted to choose between “Motor Configuration” and “Shade Replacement.” Select “Motor Configuration.”
Important: After the option is chosen, you will follow a guided process. The Motor Configuration process maintains much of the previous “Motor Replacement” and “On-Site Fabrication” workflows, with adjustments to improve user experience.
Select Shade Type
- You will then be prompted to select the shade type. The list of available options is determined by the motor PCN.
Note: For Duette®, Applause®, or Vignette® Stacking products, make sure to select the correct shade size based on square footage:
- Duette® and Applause® – Select the “XL” option for bottom-up, top-down bottom-up, and top-down shades above 38 sq ft.
- Duette® and Applause® Duolite® – Select the “XL” option for Duolite shades above 16 sq ft.
- Stacking Vignette® – Select the “XL” option for any design above 48 sq ft.
Additional Shade Settings
- For Roller Shades, select roll direction – standard roll or reverse roll. For some products, you will also be asked to select the motor side.
Note: This selection must match how the shade was ordered and built.
- A message in the app will confirm when Motor Configuration is complete.
Calibration and Final Configuration
- Next, the shade will calibrate, moving to the open and closed positions.
Note: Some motors, such as those without a hard bottom limit, will require you to manually set limits at this step. The app will automatically guide you through these steps if necessary.
- The user will land on a final configuration screen with two options:
- Add to Home – adds the motor as a new shade.
- Shade Replacement – syncs the shade with an existing shade’s settings. See the article Shade Replacement in the PowerView® App for more information.
