Identify Your System
UltraGlide® is a retractable, child-safe operating system used on several Hunter Douglas shade styles. It was available in three versions depending on the product's age and design, but today it is only offered with the wand.
Tassel (Newer Style): One-piece molded tassel with a visible cord knot inside. Common on shades made from 2021 to early 2024.
Need to order this tassel? Go to parts.hunterdouglas.com, and use #4153091525.
Tassel (Older Style): Two-piece assembly with a plastic cover and separate outer body that snap together. Used on most shades prior to 2021.
Need to order this tassel? Go to parts.hunterdouglas.com, and search for "Tassel Cover" to pick an available color, along with the clear Tassel Body #2931556000.
Wand (Current Style): The wand version never includes a tassel or exposed cord. A straight wand attaches to a threaded connector near the top of the shade. This version began on May 13, 2024.
Need to order a wand? Go to parts.hunterdouglas.com, and search for "UltraGlide Wand" to pick an available color. The threaded connector Stop Ball piece that connects the wand to the cord is also available using #2930564000.
Attach Tassel (Newer Style)
If the tassel has detached or you need to shorten the cord, you can reattach it using these steps:
- Thread the pull cord through the warning and operational tag.
- Thread the pull cord through the tassel.
- Tie a double knot at your desired length.
Attach or Adjust Tassel (Older Style)
Use these steps if your tassel has come apart or the cord length needs adjustment. This style includes a two-piece design with a separate cover and outer body that snap together.
Insert the tassel cord through the hole in the top of the tassel cover (opaque piece).
Tie a knot at your desired cord length, then pull the knot inside the cover.
Trim the cord if needed.
Place the tassel body around the cover.
Squeeze the sides of the tassel cover together while sliding it into the tassel body until it clicks.
Tip: After reassembling, ensure the tassel is secure and the pieces don’t separate easily.
To Adjust Tassel Length
Grip both pieces of the tassel and gently separate them.
Slide the cover off and untie the knot.
Repeat the steps above to retie and reinstall at a new length.
Install the UltraGlide® Wand
Use this section if the wand has come off or needs to be replaced. The wand must be fully secured to operate the shade safely and prevent it from detaching during use.
Caution: Do not hand-tighten the wand without a tool. Improper tightening can cause the wand to detach. Always use a 5/16” open-end wrench or pliers for secure installation.
- Pull out the bumper and threaded connector until visible.
-
Slide the bumper away from the connector.
- Hold the connector with a 5/16” wrench, then screw the wand onto the connector until it clicks twice and stops.
- Slide the bumper back into place.
-
Release the wand.
Install Magnetic Hold-Down Brackets (Optional)
Magnetic hold-down brackets help keep the shade aligned and stable, especially on doors or in areas where wind or movement is common. They are optional and work with most UltraGlide® bottom rails.
- Lower the shade.
-
Place the bracket on the bottom rail, just inside the end cap.
- Hold the bracket in place while testing shade movement.
- Mark the screw hole and drill using a 3/32" bit.
-
Attach the bracket with screws provided.
Tip: The screw should be centered in the channel to allow for adjustment. -
Adjust position within the bracket channel as needed.
Need to order Magnetic Hold-Down Brackets? Go to parts.hunterdouglas.com, and use #KIT9108.
Repair Service Eligibility
Although UltraGlide® with a wand is the only version currently offered, Hunter Douglas continues to support field repairs for existing UltraGlide® shades in their original form. If your shade was manufactured with a cord-and-tassel design, it can still be repaired and returned as a corded UltraGlide® product.
