Summary:
Depending on the size, larger shades may have a larger motor.
Applies To:
Designer Roller Shades, Designer Screen Shades, PowerView® Gen 3 (after Spring 2022)
Larger shades may sound louder than smaller ones—even when both are using PowerView® Gen 3 motors.
Here’s why:
For most system configurations, shades wider than 90-1/8” use a larger tube and motor, while shades 90” wide or less use a smaller motor and tube.
The larger motor is approximately twice as loud as the smaller one. This difference in motor size—and the corresponding acoustics—can be more noticeable when both sizes are installed in the same home.
This variation in sound is normal and not a sign of product malfunction.
