Summary: Follow these instructions to safely replace breakaway tassels on horizontal blinds. Use one tassel per lift cord to meet safety requirements and reduce the risk of accidental strangulation.
Applies To: Parkland®, Everwood®, Modern Precious Metals®
Replace Tassel Components
1. Remove the Old Tassel
2. Thread the New Components
3. Tie Off the Tassels
Attach a Clear Safety Donut
4. Prepare the Lift Cord
5. Create the Slip Knot
6. Secure the Donut
Safety Note: Do not remove the clear safety donuts from the top of the lift cords. These components help prevent access to inner cords that could pose a strangulation risk.
Remove the Old Tassel
-
- Cut the lift cords just above the existing tassel.
- Cut the cords at a slight angle to make rethreading easier.
Thread the New Components
-
- Thread one wood tassel onto each individual lift cord.
- Do not use one tassel for multiple cords. This can create a loop and pose a strangulation hazard.
- Thread one lift cord grommet onto each lift cord, above the tassel.
- Thread one wood tassel onto each individual lift cord.
Tie Off the Tassels
-
- Tie a double knot beneath the grommet and tassel to secure it in place.
- Gently pull to test that the knot holds.
Prepare the Lift Cord
-
- Lower the blind completely.
- Position the safety donut 1" to 2" below the bottom of the headrail on the lift cord.
- Pull the lift cord through the hole in the donut.
Create the Slip Knot
-
- Spread the lift cord to form a loop.
- Pull the donut and lift cord through the loop opening.
- Let the cord wrap naturally around the donut to form a slip knot.
Secure the Donut
-
- Pull to tighten the knot until the donut sits snug against the lift cord.
-
Repeat for each lift cord.
