Identify Your Shade Type
The steps below depend on when your shade was manufactured. Look for a manufacturing label on the headrail or back of the shade.
Note: If you can’t find the date, try the 2007–2010 method first.
How to Operate the Remote
Infrared (IR) Shades
- Point the remote directly at the shade from a short distance.
- IR uses line-of-sight, so multiple shades may move at once.
- To control a single shade, stand close and aim directly at the sensor.
Radio Frequency (RF) Shades
- RF allows assigning specific shades to group buttons (1–4).
- No line-of-sight is required, but shades must be programmed to a group.
Shades Manufactured Before 2007
(IR only — no programming required)
- Point the remote at the shade to operate it.
- All nearby IR-compatible shades will respond.
- To isolate one shade, stand very close to it while operating the remote.
