Identify Bracket Style
Silhouette® and Nantucket™ shadings with EasyRise™ have used four types of installation brackets over time. Brackets 1–3 are discontinued.
Need to replace your bracket? Bracket 4 #KIT9125 fits all headrails, regardless of manufacture date, and can be ordered at parts.hunterdouglas.com.
Remove or Uninstall Shading
Carefully remove the headrail to prepare your shade for repair service. Follow the appropriate method based on your bracket type.
Bracket 1 (Pre-1998)
- Lower the shading at least halfway.
- Locate the release tab between the front of the headrail and the fabric roll.
- Insert a flathead screwdriver behind the locking tab and twist gently.
- Pull the headrail toward you to release it.
Bracket 2 (1998–August 2009)
- Fully raise the shading.
- Locate the locking tab at the top of the bracket.
- Insert a flat object such as a credit card under the tab.
- While supporting the headrail, lift upward to release the shading.
- Pull the headrail toward you to remove it.
Bracket 3 (Sept. 2009–March 2018)
Bracket 4 (April 2018–Present)
The removal method is the same for both brackets. Bracket 3 is plastic. Bracket 4 is metal.
- Fully raise the shading.
- Move the bracket lever to the left to release the headrail. Use your finger or a flathead screwdriver.
- If the lever is inaccessible, lower the shade slightly. Use a small screwdriver to push the bottom-side release tab.
- Pull the headrail toward you to remove it.
Tip: Always support the fabric while removing the shading to avoid damage.
Replace Bottom Rail End Cap
Bottom rail end caps serve both a functional and aesthetic purpose. They protect the ends of the bottom rail, help maintain shade alignment, and in some cases allow for the use of hold-down brackets. If an end cap is missing, cracked, or loose, it can affect how your shade looks and operates.
You may need to replace a bottom rail end cap if:
- An end cap has fallen off or is visibly damaged
- The bottom rail feels uneven or misaligned
- You're installing hold-down brackets, which require specific holes in the end caps
- The shade is rattling or shifting when in the lowered position
- The cap is discolored or worn, and you’d like a cosmetic refresh
Replacing damaged or missing end caps helps your shade sit evenly, protects it from wear, and supports secure installation with hold-down brackets if needed.
Need to order replacement bottom rail end caps? These are not universal, so to ensure you get the correct version and color, we recommend ordering through your original dealer. If any of these look familiar: #1026871, #1026865, #1026846, they can be ordered at parts.hunterdouglas.com.
- Place the shade flat on a clean surface.
- Unroll part of the fabric to access the bottom rail.
- Use a flathead screwdriver and rubber mallet to gently tap off the old end cap.
- Insert the new end cap into the rail.
- Use the mallet to tap each side evenly to avoid cracking or uneven seating.
Replace Headrail Limit Assemblies
Headrail limit assemblies act like stoppers inside your shade’s headrail. They help control how far the shade rolls up or down and keep internal parts aligned during operation. If these assemblies become damaged or misaligned, your shade may not function correctly or could roll unevenly.
You may need to replace the limit assemblies if:
- The shade rolls up too far or doesn't stop where it should
- The fabric bunches, leans, or misaligns inside the headrail
- You notice loose or detached components during a repair
- You’ve recently replaced other headrail parts (like the end caps) and the limits no longer fit securely
- The shade won’t roll up smoothly, or gets stuck partway
Replacing the limit assemblies helps restore proper alignment and operation, ensuring the shade rolls and stops as designed. Headrail limit assemblies vary by product design and size.
Need to order a new limit assembly? To ensure compatibility, we recommend working with your dealer to coordinate the selection related to your original order details. Limit assemblies #4150050885 (standard), #4140126000 (top-XL), #4150057885 (top-standard) can be ordered at parts.hunterdouglas.com.
Remove the shading from the mounting brackets and place it on a clean, flat surface.
Verify that the replacement limit assemblies match the ones currently installed. Use only limit assemblies designed for your specific shade model.
Tip: Matching the correct version ensures proper operation and prevents misalignment during reassembly.
Insert a flathead screwdriver into the gap between the back of the limit assembly and the underside of the headrail.
Rotate the screwdriver to release and remove the old limit assembly.
Snap the new limit assembly into place on the headrail.
Make sure the top limit tabs remain extended during installation.
Do not allow the limit assembly to become pinched between the fabric roll and the headrail.
Caution: Trapped or misaligned limit assemblies can interfere with shade operation and may cause fabric damage.
For shadings up to 36" wide:
Install two limit assemblies in the center of the headrail.
For shadings wider than 36":
Install two limit assemblies, placed about 4" in from each end of the headrail.
To realign a limit assembly:
Remove it, then reattach it in the correct position as needed.
Replace Headrail End Caps
Headrail end caps help protect the internal mechanisms of your shade and keep the clutch and rotator components securely housed. Over time, these caps can become cracked, loose, or damaged due to regular use, sun exposure, or improper removal during repairs. Replacing damaged or worn headrail end caps helps maintain the structural integrity of your shade and ensures smooth, reliable operation over time.
Need to order replacement headrail end caps? These are not universal, so to ensure you get the correct version and color, we recommend ordering through your original dealer. If any of these look familiar: #4178201785, #4178201329, #4158226785, #2250035320, #2250025320, #2250035661, #2250025661, #4171292320, #4171292661, or #4171291661, they can be ordered at parts.hunterdouglas.com.
- Remove the shade from the brackets and place it flat.
- If a dust cover is present, gently pull back the adhesive tape to detach it from the end caps only.
- Unroll enough fabric to expose the inner corners of the end caps.
- Cover a flathead screwdriver with a soft cloth. Use a rubber mallet to tap out each end cap without damaging the headrail channels.
- Unscrew the clutch and rotator from the old end caps. Note how each component fits—the notch on the clutch must align with the tab on the new end cap.
- Place the clutch and rotator onto the new end caps, aligning notches and tabs.
- Secure the clutch with the long screw and the rotator with the short screw.
Replace Cord Loop
Cord loops are essential to raising and lowering your shade smoothly. Over time, they can wear out, stretch, fray, or break, especially with frequent use or prolonged sun exposure. If your shade no longer lifts or lowers evenly, or the cord feels loose, slips, or won’t move at all, it’s often a sign that the cord loop needs to be replaced.
Need to replace your cord loop? Go to parts.hunterdouglas.com and search Cords, Chains & Wands, then filter by Silhouette® or Nantucket™ to locate the color and size.
To replace the cord loop, follow these steps:
- After end cap replacement, locate the clutch assembly.
- Pull one side of the old cord loop up through the opening slot on the bottom of the clutch to detach it.
- Pull the cord loop up and away from the first set of gear teeth inside the clutch.
- Rotate the gear counterclockwise while continuing to pull the cord up and out.
- Continue rotating until the loop is completely removed.
- Install the new cord loop by reversing this process—insert the cord loop into the gear teeth and rotate the clutch to draw it fully into place.
Caution: Do not force the cord. If resistance is felt, stop and realign to avoid damaging the gear mechanism.
Reassemble Headrail Components
Reassembling the headrail components can restore smooth operation and proper alignment after parts have been replaced or removed for maintenance. This repair helps ensure the fabric rolls evenly, the cord moves freely, and the shade functions as intended.
- Slide the clutch and rotator end caps back onto the fabric roll.
- Remove the top limit assemblies from the headrail before proceeding.
- Roll the fabric completely up into the moving rail.
- With the fabric rolling toward the back, align the tabs on the rotator with the groove on the moving rail. Slide it into place.
- Align the clutch end cap so the cord slot is angled toward the front.
- Slide the clutch into the headrail channels and rail grooves.
- Use a rubber mallet to tap it securely into place.
- Be sure the cord is not caught between the headrail and the end cap.
- Reinstall the top limit assemblies after both end caps are in place.
Attach Universal Cord Tensioner
- Slide the cord tensioner to the bottom of the cord loop.
- Insert a small screwdriver or similar tool through the screw hole at the base.
- Move the screw hold-down tot to the indicator line to release the safety mechanism.
- Secure the tensioner at the bottom of the loop per the Universal Cord Tensioner Installation Kit.
Caution: The shade will not operate unless the cord tensioner is secured. Proper installation is critical to reduce child-strangulation risk.
