Summary:
These are instructions for setting, clearing, and adjusting electronic limits on Legacy PowerView® shades, including top, bottom, vane, and middle rail positions by product type and manufacturing date.
Applies To:
Legacy PowerView® (prior to Fall 2022)
1. Top Limit Adjustment
2. Clear Electronic Top Limit
3. Vane Closed Position Adjustment
4. Vane Open Position Adjustment
5. Middle Rail Bottom Limit Adjustment
6. Bottom Limit Adjustment
Top Limit Adjustment
We recommend reading through the instructions once before attempting to complete them. If you are initially unsuccessful in setting a custom limit using the instructions, please try the following:
- Confirm that the window treatment you are trying to set a custom limit with was manufactured after the date listed in each limit setting section.
- Confirm the window treatment is joined to the remote you are using.
- Perform a basic six-second calibration reset on the window treatment to establish the limits that were set during manufacturing. Press and hold the programming button for six seconds. The shade will move slightly (jog), then cycle through its travel limits. Once the calibration process has begun, it should be allowed to complete without interruption.
- Confirm the remote is able to go into programming mode by pressing and holding the STOP button on the remote for approximately six seconds until the indicator lights start blinking. If the lights do not start blinking, change the batteries on the remote.
- A custom top limit should be set when there is a need to adjust how tightly the bottom rail of a window treatment docks into the headrail or if there is a need to adjust how the bottom rail aligns with a custom trim. This process can also be used to align the top limits on side-by-side window treatments.
- The electronic top limit cannot be set higher than the hard stop limit. When aligning side-by-side shades, match the top limits to the shade with the lowest hard stop limit.
- Hard stop limits can be tested by performing a six-second calibration, either with the programming button or through the PowerView App. The shade will run fully to the hard top limit before lowering to the bottom limit, but this does not clear the electronic top limit.
Two different sets of instructions for adjusting the electronic top limit are available, depending on the specific product and manufacturing date.

Procedure for Adjusting the Top Limit
A video of this method can be found: Use the PowerView Legacy Remote to Adjust the Upper Limit for Designer Roller & Designer Screen Shades
- For Sonnette Cellular Rolling Shades only, move the shade to its current top limit position. (For all other products, you can leave the shade in its current position.)
- Use the remote to press the group button (1-6) that the shade is joined to.
Note: For Sonnettes made before or during December 2018, you will instead deselect all group numbers. Ensure that no group numbers, including the ALL button, are selected. - Press and hold the programming button on the window treatment. (When pressing and holding the programming button for this step, ensure you do not hold it for longer than five seconds, or the shade will recalibrate.) While pressing and holding the programming button on the window treatment, press and release the OPEN button on the remote, then release the programming button on the window treatment.
- If the window treatment is not already there, it will move to the top limit. The LED on the programming button will turn solid red to indicate that the window treatment is in fine adjustment mode. For Sonnette Cellular Rolling Shades, the shade will jog, and the shade LED will blink red once. Once in fine adjustment mode, you have one minute to move the shade to the new limit position (steps 5-8). If the shade does not receive a movement command within one minute of going into fine adjustment mode, the shade will automatically revert back to the previous limit position.
- Use OPEN, STOP, and CLOSE on the remote to position the window treatment at the desired top limit position. While in fine adjustment mode, the window treatment will move slowly.
- Press and hold the STOP button on the remote for approximately six seconds until the indicator lights start blinking to put the remote in programming mode. Ensure no group numbers are selected on the remote. The remote should continue to blink in programming mode as you proceed to step 7.
- Press and release OPEN on the remote. The window treatment will jog to indicate the new top limit was accepted, and the red LED will turn off.
Note: For window treatments manufactured after 10/14/2019, you do not need to press the programming button on the window treatment during this step. Instead, you would simply press and release OPEN on the remote to set the limit. - Press and hold STOP on the remote until the indicator lights stop blinking (approximately six seconds), or let the remote time out (approximately 20 seconds).
- Operate the window treatment to confirm the new top limit position has been set successfully.
