Summary:
Learn about repair options for Duette® and Applause® EasyRise™ shades manufactured before April 2009. While most repair parts for ¾″ pleat sizes are still available, support is limited for older pleat sizes and certain internal components. Basic replacement parts, such as cord loops and cord tensioners, may still be provided depending on availability.

Remove the Shade
Taking it down first gives you better access to the internal parts and prevents damage to your window frame or fabric during the process.
Lower the shade about 4″.
Use a flathead screwdriver to push up on the front tab of the mounting bracket to release the front of the headrail.
Rotate the headrail downward and out from the bracket.
Remove Clutch and Shaft
If your shade isn’t operating smoothly or the cord loop feels stuck, the clutch and shaft may need to be removed for inspection or replacement. This step clears the way to replace worn components and restore proper function.
Remove the clip from the shaft.
Slide the shaft out of the headrail.
-
Remove the clutch and attached metal shaft together.
Slide the clutch cover upward, then pull it out.
Replace Cord Loop
Over time, cord loops can become frayed, stretched, or broken. Replacing the loop keeps your shade safe to operate and ensures the lift system works smoothly.
Need to order a new cord loop? Go to parts.hunterdouglas.com and search "cord loop” under the Duette® or Applause® product line to locate your size and color.
-
With the clutch and shaft removed, pull one side of the cord loop up from the first set of gear teeth.
Slowly rotate the gear teeth counterclockwise while pulling upward on the cord. Do not rotate the full clutch assembly.
Continue until the cord is free.
Thread the new cord loop onto the desired clutch by engaging the gear teeth and pulling the cord around.
-
Make sure the cord exits the same side as it did originally.
Replace Clutch
The clutch is the main mechanism that drives the cord loop. If your shade slips, won’t lift evenly, or the cord loop does not move properly, swapping out the clutch can solve the problem.
Need to order a new clutch? Use part number #2931125000 for the EasyRise Lift Set Kit at parts.hunterdouglas.com.
-
Use needle-nose pliers to pinch the metal retainer clip, releasing its grip on the shaft.
While pinched, pull the metal shaft out of the clutch.
-
Align the new clutch with the metal shaft and seat it fully.
Reassemble and Adjust the Shade
Spool assemblies guide the lift tape that raises and lowers the fabric. If your shade isn’t lifting evenly or one side hangs lower than the other, replacing the spools and tape helps restore a balanced, smooth lift.
Insert the metal shaft and clutch through the tape spools. Do not rotate the spools during insertion.
-
Reinsert the retainer clip.
Align the tabs on the clutch with the headrail grooves and slide the clutch into place.
Lower the shade about 4″.
With the colored side facing you, insert the headrail at an angle so the top groove fits into the bracket notch.
Carefully rotate the headrail upward until it snaps into place.
-
Lower the bottom rail to the window sill and pull the lift tape taut.
-
Adjust the shade height by repositioning the buckles in the bottom rail, if needed.
-
Check that the cord loop and fabric move freely and the drop height is correct.
-
Break off the buckle handles.
Trim or affix excess tape, leaving enough for future access to the buckles.
Attach Universal Cord Tensioner
- Slide the cord tensioner to the bottom of the cord loop.
- Insert a small screwdriver or similar tool through the screw hole at the base.
- Move the screw hold-down tot to the indicator line to release the safety mechanism.
- Secure the tensioner at the bottom of the loop per the Universal Cord Tensioner Installation Kit.
Caution: The shade will not operate unless the cord tensioner is secured. Proper installation is critical to reduce child-strangulation risk.
