Install Swivel Plate
If a swivel plate becomes loose or detaches from the bulkhead, your Luminette® vanes may no longer rotate as expected. Replacing the plate restores the connection between the vane assembly and the tilt mechanism, allowing smooth and consistent operation.
Need to order a swivel plate replacement? Use #1035151 at parts.hunterdouglas.com.
Need to order a new Lead Carrier Assembly? Use #4250129126 or #4250127126 at parts.hunterdouglas.com.
- Align the rivet with the swivel plate.
- Insert the rivet as far as it will go.
- Use pliers to crimp the bottom of the rivet.
- Snap the swivel plate to the bulkhead.
- Attach the swivel plate to either the motor or swivel arm.
Replace Gears
If your vanes no longer rotate, skip during operation, or feel unusually stiff, the internal tilt gears may be worn or damaged. Replacing the worm gear or tilt drive gear restores smooth, reliable vane rotation so you can easily adjust light and privacy. The wand hook connects the wand to the worm gear. The wand hook cover secures the hook in place.
Need to order a Wand Hook with Hook Cover? Use ##4250062126 at parts.hunterdoulgas.com.
Need to order a Tilt Drive Worm Gear? Use #4250051000 at parts.hunterdoulgas.com.
Need to order a Tilt Drive Gear? Use #4250058000 at parts.hunterdoulgas.com.
Follow these steps to restore smooth vane operation:
- Slide the wand hook cover over the hook to release the wand. Remove the wand.
- Slide the wand off of the hook.
- If the hook is bent, use needle nose pliers to remove it.
- Use a flathead screwdriver to pry up and slide off the active end cap cover. Do not insert the blade into the rectangular opening.
- Turn and pull the worm gear clockwise to remove it.
- Slide off the tilt drive gear from the tilt rod.
- Align and install the new tilt drive gear onto the tilt rod.
- Apply white lithium grease to the worm gear threads only, not to the shaft or base. Do not use silicone spray.
-
Insert the worm gear into its hole. Turn counterclockwise until fully seated.
- Check that the cords move freely and are untangled.
- Snap the end cap cover back into place.
- Re-insert the wand hook into the worm gear and pull the cover tightly over the wand.
Caution: Excess grease can damage cords or fabric.
Replace Tilt Reduction Pinion Clips
If your vanes look uneven or don’t tilt together when you rotate the wand, the tilt reduction pinion clip may be broken or out of place. Replacing the clip realigns the vane carriers so they tilt smoothly and evenly, restoring a uniform appearance and consistent light control.
Need to order a new pinion clip? Use #4250142000 at parts.hunterdouglas.com.
Need to order headrail scissors? Use #4250076000 at parts.hunterdouglas.com.
- Place your thumb on the side of the broken carrier and upper pinion clip.
- Use your forefinger to pull the lower part of the clip until it snaps out.
- Rotate all pinion clips 90° so long teeth face away from the opening.
- Hold a new clip 90° to the rail and push it into the fabric carrier until it clicks.
- Rotate the new clip to match the others.
Tip: Twist the wand fully in both directions to auto-align all clips.
Repair Service Eligibility
Luminette® shades manufactured after 2003 and before May 2022 can often be repaired if the necessary replacement parts are available. This article includes several repairs that may be completed in the home when the required parts are still in stock. Most parts for these models remain available; however, some components may have limited quantities and could eventually be discontinued.
Repairs are not currently offered for shades manufactured after May 2022 with any Luminette® lift system, due to the complexity of the design.
If a required part is no longer available, your dealer can discuss alternate repair options or recommend replacing the operating system or shade.
For questions about installation, operation, or care, see our article Where can I find installation and user guides for my shade? for details on finding the right instructions and resources for your product.
