Locate the Adjustment Cord
If your shade appears uneven or won't reach its mounting bracket, the cord length may need to be adjusted. Locating the adjustment cord is the first step in resolving most height and leveling issues.
- Fully lower the shade.
- Look underneath the bottom rail for a small pocket containing a ferrule (a small plastic piece where cords are secured).
Understand the Ferrule Mechanism
The ferrule is a small component that locks the cord in place to maintain the desired length and tension of your shade. Understanding how it works is essential before attempting any adjustments.
- The ferrule locks the cord in place and allows for adjustment.
- You can pull the cord to remove the ferrule from its pocket if needed.
Note: Use needle nose pliers if the cord has been trimmed or is hard to grip.
Shorten or Lengthen the Shade
If your shade is too short to latch into the bottom bracket or too long and buckling, this adjustment ensures a proper fit and restores smooth operation.
- To shorten: Hold the cord tight under the ferrule, then slide the ferrule up toward the pocket.
- To lengthen: Hold the cord tight between the pocket and the ferrule, then slide the ferrule down, away from the pocket.
- Insert the ferrule fully back into the pocket after adjustment.
- Optional: Tape the extra cord to the rail or place it into the groove for future adjustments.
Level the Bottom Rail
A crooked bottom rail can affect the shade's appearance and operation. Leveling ensures the fabric stacks evenly and the shade looks symmetrical within the window.
- Repeat the same adjustment steps on the higher or lower side of the shade.
- Test and repeat until the rail sits level.
Tip: Adjust with the shade fully lowered for best results.
Re-Thread the Ferrule if Dislodged
If the ferrule has come loose or detached, re-threading is necessary to restore the cord's function and maintain correct shade positioning.
- Thread the cord into the tapered end of the ferrule.
- Loop the cord around the ferrule and pass it back through the same tapered end.
- Make sure the cord loop fits into the side groove of the ferrule.
Repair Service Eligibility
The repairs in this article are the only adjustments designed for in-home support on Duette® and Applause® Cordless Sidelight Shades. If your shade needs a different type of repair, such as a damaged headrail or bottom rail, your local dealer can help determine what options are available. In some cases, replacement parts, such as a new Pocket & Ferrule set #3200156000C, may be eligible for order at parts.hunterdouglas.com.
